I think given that the episode was not a double episode and just a slightly extended premiere the scores have no real need to be halved.
Let us consider that the first 10 minutes involved everyone getting a confessional. The episode as a whole was just over an hour long, as compared to a regular 42-45 minute episode.

I concur that they shouldn't be halved, but I am admittedly biased. The reasoning not to halve them is sound though, it's very different to last season.

I don’t exactly understand the 'it's very different to last season’ argument for not halving. We knew before the premiere that it was going to be shorter than last season and that there would only be one tribal council. Yet people still wanted to halve it. Now they change their minds ...

Also why is everyone taking an all or nothing approach here. What about this option I suggested? Other option: Instead of halving, we could take two-thirds of each score, i.e. multiply each score by 2/3.

Because last season the points were way higher, and we couldn't know about that until we actually saw the episode.
I don't know about the two thirds thing, we just have to wait for the Ghost to see if changing is even an option at all.

I think people expected this premiere to be a double boot because it was a longer episode, hence the support behind halving episode one. Now that the double boot theory has been debunked, we can ditch the halved points idea.
I think 2/3 just over-complicates things a little more than it has to be. Halving was simple and had merit based n last season, but things have changed.

But it was obvious that points would be lower this season with a shorter premiere and only one tribal council.
lol how does 2/3 complicate it? It's exactly the same in terms of complexity as halving it. Instead of multiplying each score by 1/2, you multiply it by 2/3.

But we didn't know it would be only one tribal council, did we?
I'm sticking to leaving points as is. The impact on the total points board will be minimal based on the additional time in the premiere.

It's a little reward for picking a good tribe to start, but it's not an over the top double points style advantage.

I knew there was only one tribal council. I thought it was obvious, maybe it wasn't.
Anyway I actually don't care
I'm just pointing out that you guys agreed to have it halved when it was obvious points would be lower this season.

You say "obvious" as if everything was outlined in the online previews...

It was obvious by the length of the episode as outlined in the TV guides

Rockys right. Can we just do what originally planned to do and keep everything the same as it was before the start.
